Cyber-Wholeness Enrichment Programme

Grooming students to become peer-mentors and role-models in cyberspace...

Can secondary school students e-mentor their juniors? Will they have the maturity to be a cyber-role model for their peers?

These were the questions in our mind when the Cyber-wholeness Enrichment Programme (CWEP) was started. It is a 10-session programme for early teens focusing on achieving a healthy online-real life balance, with a long-term goal of developing participants to become peer-mentors and role-models. A group of 15 boys were selected from TKSS Secondary 1 batch to participate in this pilot programme.

When will they become student e-mentors? What are they expected to do? What "powers" would they get?

Learning Effective Communication

These were the questions that the participants asked right from the very first sessions. They were not given direct answers but were instead treated to a variety of programmes ranging from Fishing & Hiking, to Multiple Intelligence & "DISC" personality tests. There were also sessions giving them a closer look at the real world of computer hacking and gaming. All these sessions were designed to develop them to be the best person they can be, in their own unique ways. At the end of the day, it was not just the "appointment", the "job" or the "powers" that was important, but rather the development process that was valuable.

Have they proven themselves? What else is in store beyond CWEP?

The participants were assigned the task to maintain and moderate a "World Cup" board at the end of CWEP. The student-moderators fared excellent and showed promise to be future e-mentors. Quite a few demonstrated ability to persuade and get their peers to cooperate for the common good. They also demonstrated glimpses of ability to start good threads
