After Project CRuSH ended its run in TK a year ago, the second phase of Project CRuSH, (called Planet CRuSH) began its pilot run in TK this febuary. Planet CRuSH is a program consisting of a series of lessons designed by Touch Community Services to impact and transform the cyber communities of participating schools over the long term, and to educate them in more specific internet issues.(internet pornography, internet crimes, etc)
The lesson taught, called SPAM - Sending Particularly Annoying Messages sought to shed light on the ever-present problem of junk email, and how one is able to prevent oneself from being a victim of this phenomenon as well as how to take steps to lessen the severity of the problem.
Apart from this, the aim of the lesson also was to impact the students with positive values that would ultimately carry over from their online activities to real life.
Of this lesson, one value taught was that of consideration. By highlighting how irritated the students were with spam in their email in-boxes, the students were in a position to reflect upon whether their internet activities were less than considerate to others.
Feedback from students
surveyed revealed a very positive and encouraging response, and certainly
Planet CRuSH has great potential in gradually transforming the communities
of youths today into the adults of tomorrow! |
