Professors Play Games Too!

On the 20 of April 2006, the Cyber-wellness Team hosted a group of researchers from NIE, NTU, MDA and NUS. They came for a special version of what we call "Bridging Generations Through the Internet" or BGTI for short.

This program aims to connect adults to the world of computer gaming. Three of the most popular games today are introduced and taught to the eager participants. They are: "Maple Story" - a massively multi-player role playing game which is popular among younger children. "Counter-Strike" – a fast paced shooting game which is one of the most popular games for computer game tournaments. "Defense of the Ancients (DotA)" – a strategy game that is popular with older teens

From this experience the researchers are more able to understand the factors that pull gamers to start, and to continue gaming. The cyber-wellness team also presented an introduction to our vision as well as to one of our programs called Peak Performance for Cyber-Gaming (PPCG) where the guests went through some practical steps to improve their posture and flexibility.

We believe that this short three hour session will be a stepping stone to greater understanding of the world of cyber gaming by the academic community. The cyber wellness team at TOUCH Cyber Wellness & Sports wishes the research team all the best in their research and we believe that this research will be ground-breaking and society-impacting!
