Introduction

TOUCH Cyber Wellness provides assessment, counselling services and intervention programmes to both individuals and families. Our counsellors help resolve cyber-wellness related issues, so that our clients can better manage and improve their lives.

TOUCH Cyber Wellness is highly esteemed for its counselling services, especially in the field pathological gaming, and has provided consultancy services to counsellors, social workers and mental health professionals, both in Singapore and China.

In the recent years, the negative effects of excessive digital gaming have become prominent among youths in Singapore. In some literature, these effects have been compared to those for pathological gambling. Some games features have even been compared to the addictive features present in gambling games.

Some of the indicators for pathological gaming that has been put forth are:
1.   Conflict: Gaming habits conflict with real world priorities such as school attendance and performance, family relationships.
2.   Cognitive Salience: Gaming dominates the thinking and imagination of the gamer, displacing his attention from other activities.
3.   Relapse & Reinstatement: The game tries to cut down and control his gaming habits, but fails and falls back into the cycle repeatedly.

Such symptoms are common among many of the clients seen by TOUCH Cyber Wellness. Since 2006, we have helped more than 2,900 clients through healthy gaming groups, phone and direct counselling. Of the 200 clients who have gone through our face-to-face intervention, more than 70% attained their counselling goals set at the beginning of the process.
