| Going the extra mile: TOUCH Cyber Wellness extends its services to training counsellors
Last December, TOUCH Cyber Wellness conducted a three-hour
training session on counselling pertaining to cyber wellness issues for 19
school counsellors-in-training. This move in accepting the invitation from
Executive Counselling Training Academy (ECTA) to give this lecture signifies
TOUCH Cyber Wellness's intention to expand its range of services to include that of providing
specialised cyber wellness counseling training for current counsellors or
counsellors-to-be.
Mr Poh Yeang Cherng, Manager, TOUCH Cyber Wellness, said, "With more cases of youths being
involved in problems such as cyber bullying, gaming obsession and pornography,
we see an increasing need to equip counsellors with the right knowledge and
skills so that they can better deal with some of the cyber wellness issues they
face when counselling youths."
The training was broken down to three parts; a theoretical component, a hands-on
practical component, and a sharing session by two youths who used to be addicted
to gaming. Trainees were able to sit down with the youths to practise what they
have learnt from the session.
Ms Audrey Fang, Senior Manager, ECTA, who sat in the session, commented, "I was
very impressed that they brought in previous clients who have now become youth
volunteers at TOUCH Cyber Wellness to share their experiences. Although the session was very
short, I felt it was well-organised, professionally conducted, and definitely,
an eye-opener."
