... Once hooked on gaming

|
| Where I was before… |
| I started playing computer games since primary school. It started
with Maple Story and then I moved on to DOTA (Defence of the Ancients)
in secondary school. I would often play at LAN shops after school
till late into the night. Playing the games gave me a sense of achievement.
Soon, I lost interest in my studies and hardly had time for family
and friends. My results began to deteriorate and I barely passed my
exams. |
| Turning point… |
| One day I was introduced to TOUCH Cyber Wellness and
was quickly connected with a youth mentor. For the first time, I felt
someone really understood me. He helped me to see the importance of
drawing a balance between the virtual and real world. With some counselling,
I began to understand my motivations for gaming and eventually, was
able to control my gaming habits. I also made new friends at CRUSH.
These friends not only enjoy gaming like I do; we also spend time
doing other activities such as playing basketball, going on group
outings and even studying together. |
| Where I am today… |
| My life has been transformed. Not only has my studies improved,
others also tell me that I’ve become a more responsible person.
My relationship with my mother also grew closer.
I was so encouraged by my own progress that I decided to help others
who were like me. Today, I’m volunteering at CRUSH as a youth
mentor, just like the one I first met a few years ago. I think it’s
the least I can do in return.
